        • Seaweed as a bioresource for low carbon food systems

We are working on reducing emissions from our food systems to ensure food security while respecting planetary boundaries - supporting high nature value farming and rural livelihoods

A localised circular economy for bioregional resilience

Supporting a generation of ecological stewardship for climate change mitigation and adaptation, reviving a community-based connection with nature and regenerative principles to safeguard our future

An Irish seaweed supplement that reduces methane emissions from livestock
          May 25, 2020
Background DúlaBio is a social and environmental start-up working on lowering the carbon footprint of food, using nature-based solutions - beginning with seaweed. We have designed and tested an Irish seaweed blend for anti-methanogenic activity in livestock agriculture, to reduce emissions and...
        • Our work

We are creating seaweed products to improve circularity and lower emissions arising from processes in our food systems. Our work supports the development of a localised bioeconomy, creating products through infrastructures for rural participation and regeneration. Our goal is that this will empower communities to adapt to their local realities and needs for a sustainable future.

          Regenerative Seaweed Farming

Our mission is to provide opportunities for seaweed cultivation and processing in rural and coastal regions of Ireland. Seaweed grown from our farms will follow ecologically, environmentally and socially regenerative values. Our processes will also integrate with existing aquaculture sites to remediate nutrient build-up and acidification from those surrounding areas.

A Natural Resource for Livestock Productivity

We are offering a unique and specialised feed supplement for ruminant livestock, derived from a blend of locally available seaweed which reduces methane-forming bacteria in the gut. This effect on rumen bacteria has known health and digestion advantages as well as lowered methane gas emissions, reducing the costs associated with feed and herd health for livestock farmers, while significantly reducing agricultural emissions and the carbon footprint of the food produced within these systems.

Evolving Traditional Knowledge for a Changing Society

Our long-term goal is to advance the potential of these bioresources for social and cultural transformation in rural regions in Ireland. We are promoting bioregional and localised knowledge transfer in communities, by creating valuable opportunities to participate in the rural bioeconomy through the building of biorefinery for sustainability. Improving the balance with nature and livelihood is at the core of what we do - we align ourselves with the interests of all stakeholders in our ecosystems and communities.
